ISG Completes Slasher Drives Upgrade
ISG completes installation and start-up of Slash
er project
3/24/08 -- ISG announced that it had recently completed installation and start-up of a drives system upgrade on an existing textile slasher for a nationally recognized denim supplier. The project involved a complete upgrade of the drive system including motors and reducers as well as converting the system from DC to AC drives.
The project was implemented through Motion Industries (Chattanooga, TN) which supplied all of the system hardware. System components included Marathon motors, Control Techniques (Emerson) drives and Bonitron Regeneration units.
The system replaced an existing Reliance MaxPak
(DC) platform which incorporated an Automax
DCS/PLC. The unique aspect of this upgrade is that by using the Control Techniques platform with its programmable application modules no separate PLC was required. All control functions were programmed in the drives. A CTNET network
supported the drives and an HMI.
Another noteworthy aspect is the application itself
which incorporates a constant tension center-winder (CTCW) on the Beam
drive section. This functionality was implemented using a Control Techniques dedicated application module with factory designed software specific for this type of application. Build-up ratio on the reel was nearly 5:1 and incorporated load sharing.
E-Stop controls were upgraded as well, using the
Jokab EDEN system – also furnished by Motion Industries.
